Re: [Poqetpc] Re: PoqetPad PCMCIA cards

So they are on mine, as I now noticed. In fact config.sys loads:

FILES=30
BUFFERS=30
STACKS=9,256
DEVICE=C:\OS$CLOCK.SYS
REM DEVICE=D:\RAMDISK.SYS 32
DEVICE=D:\PQSS.EXE
DEVICE=D:\PQCCU.EXE
INSTALL=D:\PQCARD.COM

And the C&SS drivers are:

pqss.exe    5402    07-22-93  3:38p      Version 1.6
pqccu.exe   5168    10-20-93  3:10p      Version 1.0  Level 6.9
pqcard.com  5514    10-27-93  3:01p      Version 1.17

And here there is a difference to my PoqetPlus, which loads:

pqss.exe    5402    07-22-93  3:38p      Version 1.6
pqccu.exe   5648    03-24-94  6:28p      Version 1.0  Level 7.2 !!!
pqcard.com  6778    01-15-94 10:00p      Version 1.18           !!!

So I guess it might be well worth to try the newer pqccu and pqcard on
the PoqetPad (I can send you the files, or you can wait for me to do
this, or maybe you can find them lying around somewhere on the WWW :-)

Same her, but maybe with the newer driver, which works in the
PoqetPlus?

Hmm. I distinctly remember loading the Volkow Commander (a Norton
Commander clone) on the PoqetPad and using it with the Mouse, so
surely this works in principle. My default autoexec.bat loads
keymouse.com (12365Bytes, 10-20-93 11:42a), does yours?

As for developing applications, I once bought a copy of PenRight
Version 3.5.1 (for application development), which on the box lists
the PoqetPad and PoqetPad Plus (as well as 13 other supported
computers). I never got around to using it, but still hope I will one
day (so no, it's not up for sale).

I'm sure one for US$ 9.95 ought to work just as well, except that the
connector is somewhat difficult to get outside Japan...

Well, I do not have a serial connector, so I never tried, but many of
theses programs were able to install themselves on the other computer
(but usually don't work with computers above approx. 100MHz, so don't
get too excited :-). Or you could use zip (not the file-archiver, but
predating it) by Eric Meyer, which can also be installed by Serial
connection and is reportedly _very_ fast, see

http://home.att.net/~short.stop/vde/vde.htm#zipcom

Hmm, presumably some of that goes to C: or D: (are these writable?),
or can be used by enabling the ramdisk or somesuch. Certainly the
80186 compatible CPU can only use 640K as RAM, so the reminder must be
for a ramdisk...

You probably do, if only to transfer the newer drivers from the Plus
(should that work).

You noticed that you can drag the keyboard around?

Hmm. Never tried this, but this might be conceivably so...

Well, I think I remember mine was (in text-mode, that is!)

Never done that (in fact, don't even know how to do it), so maybe
you're just unlucky with your screen.

But presumably that would be lost too, wouldn't it, unless it is on an
SRAM card?

Now _that_ is way cool!

SPD5 was their old range of PCMCIA Flash Cards --- although I thought
they never made ones bigger than 10 or 20MB. The SPD5A-Size cards
are known to work in the Sharp PC3100, presumably a SPD5BX is a newer
(and bigger) version, but still close enough to the Original PCMCIA
standards to work in the PoqetPad. I believe the 5 stands for 5V (as
opposed to 5V and 3.3V dual voltage and modern 3.3V only cards).

Model-number.

See above, I got my copy from ebay, but was looking for it for at
least a few weeks...

I would be very much interested in that too!

Hope this helps
