I had the same problem once, but wasn't to eager to try and repeat the
experience (and, after all, I can read and write sram cards under
linux).  So I can't really offer any help, but...

Hmm.  FFS somehow sounds like Flash-File System.  But you were writing
to an sram card, weren't you?  Maybe this is the problem?
