Re: Re[2]: Booting other OS

I have successfully accessed the highly useful) PC3K ftp site using MSIE 5.0 from within Newsgroup messages.  Strangely it *does not like to reload* nor load from within my MSIE "Favorites" (bookmark) collection.  I believe it has to do with User:Anonymous security settings at the site from the " /pub " directory on down.  If someone knows how to contact the webmaster at hawk... please inquire why the public directory is not accessible by the public.  Perhaps they will allow some user to help maintain this important resource.  Some kind PC3K user may want to setup a more reliable site for our orphan machines.  Up to 20 meg free sites are available on the Web.

An additional source of possible confusion is that one of the PC3K FAQ editions that left out the "s" in psychol.  That would cause the browser indigestion - not because of incompatibility with the server or NT3.51.  Just wrong address spelling!

Try clicking the following PC3K FTP site URL from within this message:
ftp://hawk.psychol.ucl.ac.uk/pub/sharp-pc3k/.  This may not work but rest assured it is the correct URL and is out there as of this Feb. 9, 2000.

Note "properties" of the above list out as
http://www.deja.com/ST_artlink=hawk.psychol.ucl.ac.uk,ST_rn=ps]/jump/ftp://hawk.psychol.ucl.ac.uk/pub/sharp-pc3k/

Highlighting, Copying and Pasting the latter into your browser's address box may work (it is a kludge but better than nothing).  Someone who codes HTML may be able to decipher why the latter works (if so please let me know).  Once there, you will find over 40 files.  Some .Zip files download readily.  Others (esp. text files) inexplicably result in a "page cannot display message."  Fortunately, many of the critically needed driver files are still there.
